How it started

Our History

The “Boston” name comes from Boston, Lincolnshire, the hometown of Sir Fred Parkes (the great grandfather of our MD, Mark Parkes). Sir Fred Parkes acquired a small fish merchant business in the 1910’s, and by 1924, had acquired The Boston Deep Sea Fishing and Ice Company which was founded in 1885.

This company ultimately became the largest privately owned fishing vessel operator in the world through acquisition and organic growth. The old Boston Company was reorganised in 1970’s due to succession in the family and the decline in fishing. The family sold the remainder of their fishing interests in the early 1980’s and Bostonair Ltd was formed in 1982 from one of the old fishing companies.

Bostonair started life as an air charter company which continued until 1997 when the company changed course to supply engineers and technicians to the aircraft industry. By 2009, Bostonair achieved it’s first Part 145 approval to provide line maintenance services, and also launched Bostonair Technical Training services.

Further diversification came in 2011/2012 when Boston Energy was launched and has since become a significant division in it’s own right supplying a range of recruitment services, including: service & maintenance, pre-assembly, statutory inspection, crane & repair and technical training services to the Wind Energy sector.

Boston Renewables was also launched to provide renewable energy developments and installation services for commercial businesses and the public sector.

Bostonair Group is never an organisation to stand still and in 2020 launched Boston Rail, in which we provide contingent labour and permanent recruitment services to the sector.
