Have you ever wondered what life is like as B1 Engineer? Perhaps you’re thinking about a career change, what steps do you need to take to enter the aviation industry – is there anything you should know before you get started?

Or maybe you’re just curious like us, sat at our office desks wondering what a career spent out in the hanger would be like. Well, we’ve got the answers for you! We got in touch with one of our Engineers, Saurabh Kohli, to answer some of our burning questions.

Hi Saurabh! To kick things off tell us a bit more about what you like to get up to in your spare time outside of work?

I love outdoors and in my free time, like to go for long walks – sometimes just by myself, sometimes with the kids!

What made you want a career in aviation?

I guess it was the love of traveling & exploring unseen places, that played a big part in me choosing aviation for a career.

What were the steps you took to become a B1 Engineer?

 I did three and half years of studies in Aircraft Maintenance after high school. Then wrote exams with different authorities in order to get my basic B1 engineer licence. I then underwent specific aircraft type trainings for e.g. A330, B777 to have them endorsed on the basic licenses.

What do you most enjoy about being a B1 engineer with Bostonair?

 As a B1 with Bostonair, I get the chance to work with an international team, who get the work done and maintain a great atmosphere at the same time.

Are there any challenges to your role?

There are definitely challenges, such as the weather, heights etc., in a Line Maintenance Environment. Working under strict timelines is also another one.

Do you have any words of wisdom for people looking to start a career as a B1 Engineer?

My simple advice to a freshman:  Never shy away from asking questions!
