- EWIS
EWIS, or Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems, is a mandatory course for all those working on aircraft maintenance and needs to be retaken every two years – so jot that down. The second thing you need to know is that EWIS is categorised into 8 groups, and the one you need depends on your role:
Group 1 & 2: Avionics Engineers
Group 4 & 5: Mechanics/Interior Fitters/Sheet Metal Workers
Group 6: Other service staff (De-icing Staff, Push Back Crew, Cleaners etc)
Group 7: Flight deck crew (Pilot/Co-pilot)
Group 8: Cabin Crew

- Fuel Tank Safety
Another mandatory course, our Fuel Tank Safety online course satisfies the requirements of EASA ED/2009/007/A and FAA AC 120-97A of March 2009. It’s designed to give you everything you need to know about fuel system safety considerations, including historical incidents, ignition prevention, practical considerations, and theoretical background – so as you can imagine it’s an important one to have under your belt. Phase 1 & 2 are available as both initial and continuation courses on our website, so if you find yourself in need of renewing your Fuel Tank Safety certifications – head to our online training page.
- Human Factors
In every industry there’s always the chance of making a mistake – we’re only human after all. This course aims to eradicate that chance, by raising awareness of the implications of error, human limitations, safety culture and methods of communication within the aviation workplace – as you can imagine, this is a big deal in the aviation industry and so this course is also mandatory and must be renewed every two years.
Human Factors is a requirement for all EASA Part 147 approved organisations, and since Bostonair is EASA approved, you can find our Human Factors course here.
- Dangerous Goods
If you’re involved in the booking and ordering of dangerous goods, then this will be the course for you. If your role has absolutely nothing to do with this, then feel free to keep scrolling. Dangerous Goods is not a mandatory course and so therefore not everyone in the aviation industry must complete it.
But if you are one of the lucky few who must undergo Dangerous Goods training, it would be useful to know our online training course covers the recognition of the classes of dangerous goods and how to handle, label and document them correctly.

- ETOPS
What is ETOPS? Extended range Twin-engine Operational Performing Standards. Besides being a bit of a mouthful, our ETOPS training satisfies the requirements of EASA AMC 20-6 rev.2 Effective: 23/12/2019 Annex II to ED Decisions 2010/012/R of 16/12/2010 and FAA AC-120-42B. ETOPS is designed to give students like you a better understanding of the regulation, history, approvals, legislation and so much more surrounding what ETOPS is.
ETOPS was put in place to ensure that twin-engine aircraft adhere to a specific set of rules before take-off. It means that approved planes can fly for longer and further away from airports suitable for an emergency landing, making flying to more remote locations easier and more efficient. Since the plane will be flying further out, it’s imperative to ensure it is safe to do so.

- SMS
Safety Management Systems – as you can imagine, are crucial to running a safe working environment, especially in the aviation industry. Our SMS course will take you through the ins and outs of developing and maintaining an effective Safety Management System within your organisation. Although the course is mainly aimed at those staff involved in the development and management of the SMS, such as: Safety Managers; Accountable Managers; and Quality / Compliance Management, safety is a universal constant and, as the new Part CAMO (Annex VII GM2 CAMO.A.305(g) Personnel requirements) suggests, awareness of such systems should be filtered from top-level management to the boots on the ground.
7. Dangerous Goods by Air Awareness
The Aviation Freight industry is at an all-time high, with millions of tonnes of different items/materials being transported by air all across the world every second. Our Dangerous Goods Awareness course covers the necessary requirements for IATA Categories 6 – 12: maintenance staff; aircrew; check-in staff; and security screeners, to be able to work safely around the hazardous material that they may be subjected to in their day-to-day role.
Pulled straight from the latest IATA DGR, the training delves into why personnel involved within the aviation industry need to have an appreciation and working understanding of Dangerous Goods; the regulatory background of DG and how IATA and the UN work together; how to properly identify varying DG; and the proper procedures of working with DG.
8. EASA Part 145, Part M & Part CAMO
Mainly aimed at the management level of an organisation, our legislation courses will take you through all you need to know about the relevant legislation and rules for your organisation. Covering EASA’s Basic Regulation and the theory behind what each organisation needs to do to remain compliant to their respective regulation.
