Bostonair Group Changes Track with Expansion into the Rail Sector

24th March 2020

The Bostonair Group is hoping to fly high in the rail sector with the expansion of its leading recruitment, line maintenance and technical training services.

Boston Rail will come under the wing of the Bostonair Group – which boasts decades of experience in the aviation, wind energy and renewables sectors.

The move comes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic with the business having a significant number of highly-qualified engineers who are out of work and would be of benefit to the rail industry.

The Bostonair Group boasts an impressive customer base including SGRE (Siemens Gamesa), DHL and Lufthansa, of which it hopes to further expand in the rail industry.

Tom Anderton, Group Sales and Marketing Manager, said: “This is an exciting opportunity not just for the Bostonair Group, but the rail industry. The sector is suffering from a skills gap shortage and that is something we can help to fill.

“We are renowned for the good quality and high technical skills levels and have the capabilities to provide contract and permanent personnel, as well as executive-search capabilities.”

A key to the Bostonair Group’s success has been the commitment to invest in the technicians they employ to up-skill and cross-skill them. As an example, over £2m has been spent in technical training since 2016.

In Boston Energy (the business’ wind energy sector), 35% of staff have ex-forces backgrounds.

Tom said: “The Group has access to a continuous flow of ex-forces personnel with the right mindsets, attitudes and transferable skills.

“We are currently investing in training a number of highly-skilled ex-forces personnel through the National Training Academy for Rail who we are looking to place in the rail industry.

“Although the move into rail marks a new chapter for the business, we enter it with vast experience in working in safety-focused and highly-regulated markets and with the understanding of what is needed to succeed in them.

“We have very strong safety records and have had a huge success of investing in and training ex-forces and other electrical or mechanical personnel and believe this is something that the rail industry would also benefit from.”
