Meet Lauryn, our Part 145 and Part 147 approved Quality Assistant and Auditor for Bostonair! We sat down with Lauryn to ask her a few questions about her journey with Bostonair!
Hi, tell us a bit about yourself! What’s your background and how did you get into this role?
I jumped into working straight from leaving school at 15 years old after a rocky start due to being relocated at a young age, it took me a few tries in various industries to find a career path that I really felt was for me but when I did, I started at Bostonair as an Admin apprentice. Whilst working as an Administrator, I was helping varying aspects of the business in daily operations and before I knew it, I found myself embedded into the Quality department and I have not looked back since. I was fortunate enough to be awarded with an apprentice of the year award for the work I have completed and this has definitely helped me with the motivation to take on even more.
What is your current role?
I am currently working mainly as a Quality Assistant and Auditor alongside my direct teammates Jeff, Enrico and Abdul but I also extend my abilities outside of this with assisting the recruitment team in general admin tasks too where required.
My role puts me as one of the main contacts in regard to maintaining engineer compliance and approval documents, liaising with the internal and external personnel to ensure we have the coverage required to carry out operations in line with customer requirements and auditing to ensure we maintain regulatory compliance in both our Part 145 organsiation and out Part 147 organisation.
I spend a lot of my time reviewing, issuing, and documenting engineer and instructor authorisation documents in line with current EASA and UK regulations, as well as being primarily responsible for auditing the Technical Training team which I have found to be highly interesting!
What challenges do you face?
Working in a fast-paced environment, a lot of the challenges we face are operationally critical with short timeframes and this requires me to prioritise and delegate my workload to ensure items can be actioned in the most practical and operationally beneficial way possible. With everchanging regulations, it can make it difficult to keep up, but with the team that I am lucky to work with, this is never an issue as I have the support system around me if I require it. Teamwork makes the dream work after all!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The most enjoyable part for me, is being able to sit with my team and assist in streamlining the processes and procedures to simplify things for everyone. This allows us to then put more focus into items that will help the business achieve even more than we already have. I am passionate about investigating issues and helping my colleagues come up
with ‘easier’ ways to get things done and being a part of the Quality team has allowed me to really hone in on this passion of mine.
What are you looking forward to? What’s next?
I am looking forward to progressing even further in my career with the help of those around me and gaining more knowledge in the Aviation industry. I’m part of an ever-growing organisation and there are so many opportunities available in future, it’s hard to say exactly where I will end up in 10+ years from now but I know that I have only just begun and will take any and all opportunities to succeed that Bostonair give me.
In the future, I’d like to find myself managing and having my own team to mentor the same way that I have had as I think I have the skills in my armoury to help others achieve what I have been lucky enough to!
Do you have any advice for anyone who’s thinking of joining Bostonair?
Joining Bostonair has been one of the pivotal points in my life and one that I will always look at in a very positive light. Working for a company as inclusive and open as this one, has really made things easy and the team here at Bostonair is one that anyone would be fortunate to have.
My best advice that I have learnt in my (almost) 5 years with the company is to just go for it, take the chance, ask the right questions, and share your ideas and before you know it, with the help of our fantastic team, you will be exactly where you want to be.
